About Me
Jason Downey has nearly 20 years of legal experience and extensive trial work across Georgia, primarily in personal injury cases. He previously worked in the Macon office of Morgan & Morgan and served as in-house counsel for Allstate Insurance Company. Jason also operated his own law practice for several years, where he represented injured individuals and served as a Certified Civil and Domestic Georgia Mediator with South Georgia ADR. His background in defending insurance companies and representing families gives him a unique perspective in effectively advocating for those injured due to the wrongdoing of others.
Currently, Jason serves as Chairman of the Georgia State Board of Education, a role he was appointed to by Governor Brian P. Kemp in 2019. He previously served as Vice-Chairman of the Board and represents the 8th Congressional District. He is also a member of the Georgia Behavioral Health Reform and Innovation Committee, appointed by Governor Kemp. Before his state-level service, Jason was elected to the Macon-Bibb County Board of Education, where he served in various leadership roles, including treasurer, vice-chairman, and legislative liaison. He also serves on the board of Middle Georgia Elite Fastpitch, Inc., a girls’ tournament softball organization based in Perry, Georgia.
Jason earned his B.A. in Communication Studies from Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia, and his Juris Doctor from Mercer University’s Walter F. George School of Law in Macon, Georgia.
Born and raised near Charleston, West Virginia, Jason has made Middle Georgia his home for the past 23 years. He lives in Jones County with his wife Connie, an elementary school counselor for nearly 25 years, and their daughter Cate. In their free time, they enjoy watching Cate play softball, traveling, and spending time at Lake Sinclair.
